Idents

Idents

Every single movie that has been released to the major cinemas has to have a way of identifying which film company was involved in the making and publishing of this film. This is where Idents come into the fray. Ident depict an instantly recognisable scene that will tie that company to the film that is being viewed, some of the most recognisable are the MGM Lion Roaring and the Warner Brothers Shield. But Idents in the past few years have also been created to fit in with the film that they are being shown on, such as the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Idents that have been created. Below are a list of some of the Idents that I have thought about for my film trailer and some of the history of the company.

Lions Gate:

Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation or Lionsgate, is a North American entertainment company. The company was started on July 3, 1997, in Vancouver and now has its headquarters in Santa Monica, California. The first major box office success was the film American Psycho in 2000, which began the tradition of creating films that where controversial for major American studios.  As of 2012 it is the most commercially successful independent film and TV distribution company in North America, and is also the sixth most profitable movie studio. Lionsgate also have a different version of their Indent which is suited and mostly used within Horror films, this is the Ident that our group has decided to use within our film trailer as it conveys the horror and atmosphere that we intend to create within the trailer itself.

Paramount Pictures:

Paramount Pictures  Corporation or most commonly known as just Paramount is a film and television production and distribution company and is widely seen as one of the top grossing movie studios. Paramount was first founded on July 19, 1916, is part of the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and is the only major film studio still to be headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.  Some of the films that Paramount has distributed are,  Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and Psycho.  Paramount have received a reputation for supporting the continuation of a single film into a series (Franchise) with many sequels coming out of these such as The Transforms Films, The Godfather and Paranormal Activity.  The Paramount Ident is one of the longest surviving Idents in the Hollywood movie scene, and is said to have been created from a doodle of the mountain range of the creator from his childhood, with the stars added on which used to represent all of the 24 actors that Paramount had signed to them.
