Chapter Sheets (Clapper Boards For Each Scene)
Chapter Sheets
Here we have some chapter sheets that I have produced detailing some of the problems that we encountered during filming and what we did to overcome these problems.
Magazine Mockup
Magazine Mockup
Here you can see the magazine front cover mockup that I have created for The Woods. I wanted to go a simple and sleeker looking magazine as I believe that this creates a more effective aesthetic for the viewer to view the information, because of this I tried to avoid the overuse of pugs, puffs and anything else that could look out of place within a simple layout. I wanted the main focus of the magazine to be of the image of the actor in the centre, because of this I decided to make the image go over the Masthead of the magazine itself, this is very common practice within magazines such as empire as it creates a very bold impact and draws the viewers attention straight away. The only thing that I will have going over the actor is the name of the film itself showing that that is the main piece of text that is on the magazines front cover. I will be using one font for everything that is not to do with The Woods as to not draw attention away from the specialised font that I will be using for The Woods throughout my magazine and poster creation. I will be using some effects of photoshop on the picture of the actor to make it look a little less bright and colourful to fit in with the theme of the horror genre and also make it look more sleek. I shall be placing both the barcode and the dateline at the bottom right to make sure that they do not distract from the main focus but are clearly visible to the viewers.
Poster Mockup
Poster Mockup
I wanted to also create a simple poster for the film The Woods as well as a simple layout on the magazine. I wanted the image and the film's title to be the centre of attention on this poster as well as creating a general aesthetic that will create the feeling of horror so that viewers will instantly know what they are looking at. I will be using the same font as on the Magazine cover for the title as I want this to become associated with the name helping to create synergy within the whole marketing campaign. I will be using a colour scheme of black and red that will be the colour scheme that has been used throughout the production of the trailer and also the magazine once again helping with the synergy. The tagline of the film, "Once you enter the woods... You will never return." will be surrounding the main title as it is on the film magazine linking it directly with the trailer. The release date will be displayed in a slightly light colour that the billing block that will be above it as it allow the audience to see it very quickly and grab their attention becoming embedded within their memory then. I will have two social media links to the film at the bottom as social media has become a very big part of our demographics way of communication and allows them to share the film around much easier and the certificate and production logos will be displayed below the billing block to give the viewer all the information they need about the film at a quick glance. Lastly the billing block will be a lot smaller than the other text on the poster, but the names of the stars and other important roles within the films will be in capital letters to allow these to stand out at a quick glance.
Props List
Props List
Below is a list of all of the props that we used throughout our film trailer. They were used to create a more realistic environment and to create an overall more professional trailer. We had some props that we decided not to use within our trailer that will be describe below as well.
Knife
Below is a list of all of the props that we used throughout our film trailer. They were used to create a more realistic environment and to create an overall more professional trailer. We had some props that we decided not to use within our trailer that will be describe below as well.
Knife
This is a small rubber knife that we used within some of the old man scenes of our trailer. Upon completing our filming we decided that the scenes in which this prop was used did not fit in with the rest of the trailer and because of this is not feature within out film.
Fake Blood
This is a small tube of fake blood that we decided would be good to use within out trailer. Upon using it we decided that it was a slight bit too think so we diluted some in water and used that instead. This is featured in the scene where the log is covered in blood and is a pivotal convention within horror films as blood is a sign of danger and also death.
Bags
These are just some generic rucksacks and messenger bags that the teenagers are seen carrying into the woods upon arrival. This shows that they are here to stay as they have brought some belonging with them, but the main use of the bags was to make the film seem more realistic as people would not go for a weekend away without some sort of bag to transport belongings in.
Fire
We would have liked to use fire within out production to create a more authentic camping atmosphere but the owner of the land did not permit us to light any fires on the land. We adhered to the land owners requests and as such did not use fire within our production, along with the multiple risks involved with fires that also played a role in this decision.
Sleeping Bags
We had planned for the friends to have set up camp using their bags and sleeping bags that they had brought, but due to some unforeseen weather the night before we decided that the ground was too waterlogged for sleeping bags and sitting on the ground without the risk of dirtying somebodies belongings.
Idents
Idents
Every single movie that has been released to the major cinemas has to have a way of identifying which film company was involved in the making and publishing of this film. This is where Idents come into the fray. Ident depict an instantly recognisable scene that will tie that company to the film that is being viewed, some of the most recognisable are the MGM Lion Roaring and the Warner Brothers Shield. But Idents in the past few years have also been created to fit in with the film that they are being shown on, such as the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Idents that have been created. Below are a list of some of the Idents that I have thought about for my film trailer and some of the history of the company.
Lions Gate:
Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation or Lionsgate, is a North American entertainment company. The company was started on July 3, 1997, in Vancouver and now has its headquarters in Santa Monica, California. The first major box office success was the film American Psycho in 2000, which began the tradition of creating films that where controversial for major American studios. As of 2012 it is the most commercially successful independent film and TV distribution company in North America, and is also the sixth most profitable movie studio. Lionsgate also have a different version of their Indent which is suited and mostly used within Horror films, this is the Ident that our group has decided to use within our film trailer as it conveys the horror and atmosphere that we intend to create within the trailer itself.
Paramount Pictures:
Paramount Pictures Corporation or most commonly known as just Paramount is a film and television production and distribution company and is widely seen as one of the top grossing movie studios. Paramount was first founded on July 19, 1916, is part of the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and is the only major film studio still to be headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Some of the films that Paramount has distributed are, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and Psycho. Paramount have received a reputation for supporting the continuation of a single film into a series (Franchise) with many sequels coming out of these such as The Transforms Films, The Godfather and Paranormal Activity. The Paramount Ident is one of the longest surviving Idents in the Hollywood movie scene, and is said to have been created from a doodle of the mountain range of the creator from his childhood, with the stars added on which used to represent all of the 24 actors that Paramount had signed to them.
Soundtrack Ideas
Soundtrack Ideas
For the film trailer that my group was producing we had to decide on a soundtrack to accompany the films footage that we have shot. The soundtrack of a film is very important, as the soundtrack alone can set the genre and pace of a film. As our groups production is going to be a Horror film we decided for an instrumental score to accompany the footage as vocals would detract from the ambience and the tension that we are striving to create within the trailer. Below are a few of the choice that our group decided on:
Our First choice and the one that we finally decided to apply to our film was In The House, In A Heartbeat. By John Murphy. This is the music that was used in the film 28 Days Later. We decided that this would be a good choice for our film trailer as it is an instrumental piece that starts very slowly and starts to build up into a large crescendo ending. This is perfect for our trailer which starts off slowly setting the scene and creating some tension and ends in an explosion of action with very quick edits.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST2H8FWDvEA
Another Choice of our group was the Saw Soundtrack. This was a considered as it does the job of building the pace of the trailer and having a eerie action feeling to it. But this was not what we wanted within the beginning of our trailer and because of this we decided against using this as it was just too fast to fit in with the suspenseful trailer in which we strived to create.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWaNoK3gN6M
The last choice that we had within out group was The Amityville Horror Soundtrack. This was considered as it has a very atmospheric and tense opening that would fit in perfectly with the trailer, but once again the soundtrack did not fit with the rest of out trailer. At the end of our trailer we have some fast paced action scenes that would not fit in with this as it is very slow and suspenseful throughout the whole 6 minutes.
